About the Job:
Penn Medicine, a leading academic medical center, is seeking a highly skilled Genomic Variant Analyst to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the initial review of genomic data and maintaining a knowledgebase for variant interpretation and reporting. As a Genomic Variant Analyst, you will serve as a liaison between the diagnostic laboratory and healthcare providers, ensuring accurate and timely communication of test results. Additionally, you will play a vital role in educating staff, residents/fellows, and students.

– Perform initial review of genomic data and investigate and annotate new variants
– Triage incoming samples and ensure their adequacy for testing
– Accession specimens into the laboratory information management system (LIM)
– Follow pre-analytical and post-analytical procedures, including data analysis and review
– Collaborate with the pathology department to manage test reimbursement tasks
– Educate staff, residents/fellows, and students on genomic variant analysis
– Participate in proficiency testing and maintain regulatory compliance
– Work with billing department and insurance providers to maintain accurate billing information
– Manage clinician-related discussions about the lab’s results
– Interact with outside labs and institutions
– Contribute to publications in the field
– Maintain professional certification and licensure
– Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager or Director

– Master’s Degree in Genetic Counseling, Human Genetics, or related fields (Ph.D. preferred)
– Minimum of 3 years of previous experience working in a diagnostic laboratory
– Familiarity with oncology and next-generation sequencing technology (NGS)
– Experience working with insurance providers is preferred
